AirAsia to collect full airport tax “under protest”

KUALA LUMPUR – Low-cost carrier AirAsia will start collecting passenger service charge (PSC) for non-Asean international departures from klia 2 starting August 9 under protest, following a recent court ruling.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court ordered AirAsia a Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) at least RM40.6 million over unpaid Passenger service charges from July to December last year.

In a statement, the company said it is collecting the increased fee “under protest”.

“We will collect the full RM73 PSC but we do so under strong protest.” AirAsia Malaysia CEO Riad Asmat added.

The low cost airline refused to collect the additional RM23 fee from its guest to keep airfares affordable.

AirAsia is appealing the High Court’s decision.
