Malaysian Airlines appoints Morgan Stanley for strategic options

KUALA LUMPUR – Khazanah Nasional Bhd. appoints Morgan Stanley to “explore strategic options” for Malaysian Airlines.

The investment bank will be assessing options for the nation’s flagship carrier, including the potential sale of stakes in MAS.

PM Mahathir Mohamad stated the possibility of the airline being shut down to save money however he has also emphasized that he wants the airline to recover and keep ‘Malaysia’ in its name.

The wealth fund has requested the carrier to present a strategic plan February to help it compete in the industry. Khazanah invested 6 billion ringgit in the business in a bid to return it to profit within 3 years.

Pacific Area Travel Writers Association named Malaysia Airlines the best airline in Asia by the pacific on the recent International tourism fair in Berlin.
