IPOH – Perak has launched Malaysia’s first drive-in cinema, known as the Casuarina Sini-Drive here.
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the drive-in cinema, an initiative of Perak Corporation Berhad (PCB), is located at Downtown Meru and can accomodate up to a maximum of 70 vehicles at any one time.
Ahmad Faizal Azumu said that he was inspired to create this drive-in cinema to be able to comply with the movement control order (MCO). The cinema is expected to have a positive impact in the tourism industry of Perak which was badly affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The initiative is expected to revive ailing tourism business in Ipoh.
State Housing, Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi and PCB chief executive officer Zainal Iskandar Ismail were also present on the launching of Casuarina Sini-Drive.
There are also plans to open up more drive-in cinemas in areas such as Kuala Kangsar and Kampar if its well received by the public.
The cinema will provide a special radio frequency to the audience so the sound can be clearly heard through their vehicles speaker system. The drive-in cinema is open from 8pm to 11pm on the six metres by 18 metres screen daily starting tomorrow.
