Proton has reclaimed the second spot in overall sales for Malaysia automotive market after sales of 8,590 units in the month of July.
The carmaker returned to 2nd spot for the first time since March 2016.
Proton chief executive officer Dr Li Chunrong said the feat came in earlier than expected.
“The growth in demand for our products show that we are on track to meet our long-term targets and for the rest of 2019, we intend to consolidate our position to finish the year ranked second for the first time in four years,” he said in a statement.
Proton’s total sales at 52,269 units, a 47% growth from last year.
The automaker attributed growth to the success of Proton X70, currently the leader in SUV segment with current total sales of 17,023 units. Proton Holdings is 50.1%-owned by DRB-Hicom Bhd and 49.9% by Chinese automaker Geely.
