29 stranded mountaineers rescued by SAR team at Gunung Tumang Batak

A group of 29 mountaineers were all rescued by midnight after reports of stranding in Gunung Tumang Batak near Gunung Liang in Muallim.

According to Muallim district police chief Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof, the climbers were saved by a search and rescue (SAR) team which began their operation at 6.15pm.

Reports said that the climbers were trapped by rushing river water. At midnight, 46 SAR team members from the police, Fire and Rescue Department and the Civil Defence Force, brought them safely down to the foot of the mountain. The climbers were composed of 23 men and six women, who lives in Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
