Illegal dumping cases raising at scary level in Penang, says Jagdeep

GEORGE TOWN: The range of illegal dumpsites in Penang is raising at an alarming rate.

State Local Government Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo stated there have been 12 illegal dumping cases since June 2019.

“There are mainly 8 illegal dumping cases by private haulers from 2014 to 2018.

“However, in 2019 alone, there are 12 cases from January until June,” he mentioned at a press meeting. After the launching of the Karpal Singh Digital Hub at SK Sungai Gelugor in Penang.

He attributed the raise to the lack of a strict enforcement system, calling it as a “slap on the wrist”.

As per Jagdeep, a meeting will organize on July 2. It might include the Immigration Department, the police, the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and the Department of Environment (DOE). To sit focus on a good existing act that can prevent individuals from dumping illegally.

Also present at the launch was Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh, Seri Delima assemblyman Syerleena Abdul Rashid and MBPP mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang.
