No sign of physical assault on Nigerian who died in custody – Immigration DG

They didn’t find any signs of physical assault that caused the death of a Nigerian, Thomas Orhions Ewansiha in the Immigration depot in Kuala Lumpur, according to the investigation of the Immigration Department.

However, they are still waiting for a medical report from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (HUKM) to confirm the cause of Ewansiha’s death, Immigration Department director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud said.

“The Immigration Department has met with the Nigerian embassy, the causes of death had been explained,” he said. The meeting was held on Friday and attended by 22 representatives from other embassies and high commissions.

In a statement given by Khairul last Friday, Ewansiha died on July 9 in custody after suffering a seizure while asleep. Ewansiha was one of 20 foreigners picked up in an integrated operation on July 4 at Desa Aman Puri following public complaints.
