IPOH – Police have two 20-year-olds after a video of them apparently making fun of Muslim prayers went viral.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said that both suspects a salesman and a female college student were arrested on Saturday for making fun of Muslim prayers (April 18).
The salesman was nabbed at his residence in Menglembu while the female college student was arrested at her house in Taman Silibin Ria.
The video was uploaded last year but had recently gone viral. A man is seen praying while the women recording the video using her mobile phone can also be heard giggling in the background. She later deleted the video after receiving public backlash.
However, copies were already uploaded on Facebook and have garnered over 1M view and shared over 40,000 times.
The police seized two of the suspect’s mobile phones and will detain them the help assist with the investigations. Both suspects will be investigated under Section 298A of the Penal Code for insulting religion, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or a network service.
