Muhammad Aiman Muhammad Zaini, 24, from Kampung Putat, Jalan Kodiang, became a beef supplier to traders in Jitra and Alor Setar, within five years of venturing into the business.

The increase of the demand for his livestock would usually happens during the Hari Raya Haji celebration.

“When I was schooling, I would help my father who was running a cattle business, breeding and selling cows.

“Then when I was 18, my father handed over his business to me, entrusting me to manage everything, from the business of supplying live cattle, to slaughtering and selling the beef to wholesalers, ” he said.

When he took over the business, Muhammad Aiman said that his father did not leave a cow for breeding, but only the name and licence of the company, a list of suppliers and empty cattle barns.

He was fortunate to have earned RM7,000 in his savings while helping his father. With the money, he decided to buy two cows.

“From these two cows, I rolled the daily income by supplying raw meat to traders in markets around Jitra and Alor Setar each morning, ” he said.

He started by hiring six youths who had just sat for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination. Muhammad Aiman also taught his employees about cattle-raising techniques and slaughtering methods.

“Getting young people to work in the livestock industry is difficult because some run away as they can’t stand the smell or are afraid of cows. “But I try to reach out to them and open up opportunities for them to venture into this sector, ” Muhammad Aiman said with a hope that they would also start their own livestock farm one day.
