Two die, two injured in crash after driver allegedly runs red light

GEORGE TOWN: The collision involving the car and lorry caused the death of two youths with two others who were injured that happened along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway.

According to Balik Pulau OCPD Supt A. Anbalagan, the car driver (male) and one passenger (female) aged 18 and 21 respectively, died at the scene at around 2 am.

The car was heading from Batu Maung and believed to have run a red light until it hits the lorry which was coming from George Town and turning towards Kampung Jawa Road.

“The 42-year-old lorry driver was not injured but the two other passengers in the car suffered injuries to their feet and hands,” Supt Anbalagan said in a statement Monday.

The bodies of the deceased were brought to Penang Hospital. Based on autopsy reports, it revealed that the cause of death were severe head and chest injuries.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving resulting in death.
