KUCHING: Local authorities here have been urged to brace for shortages of water in the state, with the dry El Nino spell likely to last till May,
Deputy Chief Minister Douglas Uggah Embas said they had issued a directive to various local councils to be prepared with the necessary vehicles and allocations for water distribution.
According to him, several places and villages in Sarawak have started to experience water shortages.
Douglas said water tanks have been sent to villagers experiencing shortages and the priority now is to fill up all the water tanks starting today.
He said the water level at all Sarawak reservoirs and dams was at a satisfactory level at present. Uggah also advised people to stop open burning activities during this dry season and warned that action would be taken against offenders.
