A leader of the Selangor PKR is calling for his party to ditch DAP and Amanah, its partners in Pakatan Harapan, after two-party members seemed to favor Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the prime ministerial candidate for the coalition.
Selangor PKR Youth Secretary Ahmad Syukri Abd Razab challenged Mahathir nominating anyone he said would be “more confident” than his party boss Anwar Ibrahim. Pakatan Harapan no longer holds any value. Restoring the mandate of the people is just an excuse, considering that in their 22 months in power they did not do much.
Syukri told those eager for Mahathir ‘s return that when he appointed many anti-Anwar members to key Cabinet posts, the veteran leader had dismissed PKR ‘s objections. He referred to Mahathir nominating Mohamed Azmin Ali as the minister of economic affairs, saying that the former deputy chairman of the party had eventually committed treachery against the PH alliance.
The same people are now urging PKR to recognize the old grandfather as prime minister once again. PKR will leave PH. Hand over PH to Amanah, DAP and grandfather,” he said, in remarks he later told FMT were made in his own capacity.
The PH alliance, consisting of PKR, Amanah, and DAP, as well as the Sabah-based Warisan and four MPs allied with Mahathir, was expected to announce its prime ministerial nominee yesterday in their bid to return to federal power through a vote of confidence in parliament.
Under a new black and white deal, PH had agreed to appoint Mahathir for the top post, with Anwar as its deputy. The decision did not go well with the supporters of Anwar, who accused Mahathir of violating his vow of giving up Anwar ‘s post during the 21-month rule of PH.
