BATU GAJAH – Three golfers were caught playing at a golf club during the movement control order have been sentenced to three days in jail and fined RM1,000 each after they pleaded guilty on the charges.
Golf club manager Low Teck San (68) Transport company manager Tan Chee Kean (59) and tuition teacher Eugene Wong Yat Hoe (37) pleaded guilty to the charges under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations.
Nazratul Natrah Mohd Yusof handed the sentence saying they should’ve been an example to others by obeying the MCO and staying at home. Their actions according to the judge were disrespectful to the front-liners.
They have been charged under Regulation 6(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020 with a penalty of RM 1,000 fine and a maximum jail term of six months or both.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Fairoz Abd Mutalib agrees that all three golfers deserve jail time as a reminder for the public.
“While we are in the midst of battling COVID-19, those who violated should be punished accordingly.” He added. All three offenders paid their fines and are expected to be released from prison today.
