KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia will be joining the Global Climate Strike this month.
The country will start with a month-long Climate Emergency Operation with workshops, lectures and documentary screenings.
Over 250 people are expected to participate and march from Sogo KL to Dataran Merdeka at 4:30PM to appeal and voice out their environmental demands.
Kamy co-founder Ili Nadiah Dzulfakar said that month long operation will center on the transboundary haze that is currently affecting numbers of Asean nations including Malaysia.
“Malaysia just has 18% of its virgin forests left but the government says there is more than 50% forest cover – that is selective messaging.” she said. The Global Climate Strike, led by 16-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg will take place ahead of the United Nations Emergency Climate Summit on Sept 23.
