Malaysian MP approved historic bill, lowers voting age to 18

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 211 MPs voted to amend the Federal Constitution to lower the voting age to 18. There were no abstentions recorded.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that with the passing of the Bill, Malaysia has achieved bipartisanship for the first time, A historic moment for the country. The amendment was spearheaded by the government of the Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, over a year after defeating the incumbent PM Najib Razak and ending the Barisan Nasional coalition’s 61-year rule of the country.
