A 52-year-old man ended up being detained by the police after he was reported to have slashed his future son-in-law after he was questioned to settle a debt.
Sibu OCPD, Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit stated in the crisis at 6.25pm on Wednesday (June 19), the complainant, 31, headed over to the suspect’s residence on Jalan Pahlwan with his girl, the suspect’s 28-year-old daughter.
“The complainant came to match the suspect to talk about in a friendly manner the RM30,000 which the older man had lent from him in 2017.
Before coming to the home, the complainant called him on the phone, however there were no reply,” he included.
“He swung the machete at the complainant and even slashed his left hand. Thereafter, the suspect fled,” he explained.
The incident was noticed by the suspect’s daughter.
ACP Stanley reported the man was caught at 4am on Thursday (June 20) at a coffeeshop on Jalan Long Bridge.
“He confessed to harming the complainant and also disposing the machete into the waterway around Lanang Bridge,” he added.
The case has been looked into under Section 324 of the Penal Code for consciously causing harm by dangerous weapons.
