KUALA LUMPUR – Health Director-General Datuk Dr.Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the extension of the Movement Control Order (MCO), which is scheduled to end next Tuesday will depend on the decision of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Health Director-General cited six criteria from the World Health Organisation (WHO) as the standard they will be based on and will advise and recommend to the prime minister accordingly on the matter before the MCO ends on April 28.
“We will advise the prime minister on the MCO based on our modeling, facts, and figures and also based on the World Health Organization’s advisory and customize the advisory for our local needs.”
Noor Hisham reiterated that even if the MCO is lifted, it may not be fully removed to further curb the spread of the infection.
“The public must make sure to adhere to the new norm after MCO (is lifted). There should be no public gathering, practice social distancing and protect ourselves by wearing masks and observe personal hygiene,” The Ministry of Health has come up with a framework consisting of six aspects mainly (1) border control, (2) movement control, (3) healthcare system, (4) action plans to protect high-risk groups, (5) new norms on public health for the public to adhere to, and (6) detection of areas for spread containment as criteria for the authorities to work out before making the decision on the termination of MCO.
