Penalising smokers at eateries to begin next year.

KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah Department of Health has extended the grace period prohibiting smoking at eateries

State Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Frankie Poon said the the state cabinet agreed to contiue public awareness on the upcoming ban.

The new policy states that violators could be fined up to RM 10,000 and imprisonment for up to 2 years. Over 5,704 eateries has been inspected since the start of the year and only about 500 of them has “no smoking” signages.
