Penang expects an increase in Chinese tourist this year

GEORGE TOWN – Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow expects an increase of Chinese tourists this year in line with Visit Malaysia 2020 (VM2020) and Experience Penang 2020 promotions being supported by the government.

About three million Chinese tourists have been visiting the country annually and are expected to increase further with the vigorous promotion aim to boost tourism.

Chow said that close relationship with China also yielded good results as a number of direct flight routes to Guangzhou, Kunming and Changsha-Quanzhou-Penang and Shenzhen-Penang have been opened.

Recently, Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad announced the 15 days visa-free travel for Chinese tourists.
