Police nabs high tech car theft syndicate in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Police in Penang have busted a high tech vehicle theft syndicate including their mastermind, known as Ah Heng yesterday.

Six luxury vehicle valued at RM530,000 were found by the police team after they track down the syndicate.

The syndicate believed to be involved in 18 car theft cases that was filed this year. They would target keyless vehicles with the aid of special electronic equipment.

“By using special electronic gadgets like a jammer and smart key, the syndicate members needed less than 10 minutes to enter a vehicle and turn off its security system before driving off in the stolen vehicle.” The Criminal Investigation Department chief said in a statement. The men arrested could face jail time of not less than 1 year and maximum of 7 years with fines upon conviction.
