KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Youth and Sports Ministry is expected to assist strongwoman Joyce Heng Shu Xia to enable her to compete in the “Static Monsters” world championship in Gold Coast, Australia in June.
To date, Heng has won first place in all nine local events she participated across the country since 2017, and won four gold medals and one bronze from five international competitions.
She made the cut for the Static Monsters world championship finals to be held in June in Australia.
Heng is the sole Asian strongwoman representative in the top 10 of the women’s open category.
The Star ran an article about the financial challenges faced by the 32-year-old former bodybuilder when travelling for domestic and international strongwoman competitions, as the winnings were not sufficient to cover her expenses.
State Youth and Sports Minister Ginger Phoong Jin Zhe said he immediately reached out to Heng after reading about it on Facebook.
