Nurul Izzah who is Permatang Pauh’s lawmaker has confirmed resign via brief text message from the Parliament Public Accounts Committee (PAC). The Parliament stated that she has submitted her resignation letter to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof’s office which later confirmed he had received it via email.
This is a subsequent move by Nurul Izzah who has spoken on the government’s move to retain the PAC chair who tweeted on March 15th that the PAC Chairperson must be a member from the opposition to maintain accountability of the executive. This is to ensure Parliament is on equal footing although the current speaker has outlined intent to institutionalise reforms.
Pakatan Harapan has manifested that the post of PAC chairperson would be given to the Opposition however current Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad stated that there is no need for Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee to resign from his post after seeing him quitting UMNO to join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia. Parit Sulong MP Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad is now a candidate for the PAC Chairman.
As for Nurul Izzah, she has announced to resign from her PKR party post back in December last year yet remain a member of the parliamentary backbench committed to reforms. In any capacity, Nur Izzah is no more serve in the federal government.
