KUALA LUMPUR: There is no basis for Latheefa Koya to grill by the Parliament Special Select Committee on Public Meetings. Her appointment as the chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), argues Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
As per the Santubong MP, there was no conditions under any law or Standing Order. None encouraged the particular Parliament Select Committee to summon Latheefa for a hearing.
“This signifies that the Prime Minister’s appointment (of Latheefa), which has been completed in accordance with the Constitution, is correct.
“The House lacks the right to summon Latheefa to show up before the committee,” stated Dr Wan Junaidi. to reporters in a press conference on Thursday (July 4).
Latheefa is ready to show up before the committee on Thursday (July 4), chaired by Selayang MP William Leong.
The 46-year-old is ready to grill over her political links as a PKR stalwart. The tenure of her contract and also a few other issues, Leong said to reporters on Wednesday (July 3).
Latheefa’s appointment last month lifted the eyebrows of politicians and people of the civil society, who wondered the method of her appointment and her capability for the position.
