KUALA LUMPUR: After a 19-year illustrious career, Lee Chong Wei is expected to announce his retirement next week.
Chong Wei, when contacted, revealed he had already decided on his future and will be meeting BAM and his coaches soon.
The 37-year-old former World No 1 made the decision after his doctor advised him to take it easy to prevent his nose cancer from recurring.
Before being diagnosed with nose cancer last July, Chong Wei set a new record when he won the Malaysia Open title for the 12th time.
Since taking a break in April, Chong Wei has yet to return to court for training.
Before that, the three-time Olympic silver medallist was training thrice a week at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara, ever since he was cleared of the illness.
