PETALING JAYA: 19-year-old singles shuttler Goh Jin Wei has withdrawn from the New Zealand Open, which begins in Auckland tomorrow, as she is still recovering from a hamstring injury.
She will miss out on the first opportunity to earn Olympic Games qualification points.
She had also pulled out a week before the just-concluded Asian Badminton Championships (ABC) in Wuhan, China.
Jin Wei has been troubled by the hamstring since the All-England last month.
After a three-week break, she made her return at the Malaysian Open earlier this month, but the decision proved costly.
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) coaching director Wong Choong Hann said they are not taking any chances and only want the two-time world junior champion to return when she is 100% fit.
Choong Hann insisted that it’s not a big deal for Jin Wei to miss out on the first tournament that offers Olympic qualification points.
