KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s top mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying marked a successful first half of the year by taking their first spot in the rankings for the World Tour Finals.
World No. 5 Peng Soon-Liu Ying moved up one rung at the end of June to take the No. 1 spot for the first time.
Only the top eight after all the selected competitions this year get to play in the World Tour Finals in Guanghzou from Dec 11-15.
Malaysia also showed their strength in the mixed
doubles as Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie are currently seventh while Tan Kian
Meng-Lai Pei Jing are ninth in the standings.
Liu Ying attributed their rise in the rankings to their consistent performances since they turned independent shuttlers in January.
The duo have played in nine tournaments in the first
six months and have won two titles – the Thailand Masters and New Zealand Open.
