TOKYO : The 2020 Tokyo Olympics Committee on Wednesday unveiled the gold, silver and bronze medals recycled from old phones and other small electronic devices from all over Japan.
Junichi Kawanishi, the brain behind this winning design, was picked by a specially selected panel over 400 entries on a nationwide competition opened to both professional and student designers.
The Tokyo 2020 Medal Project goal is to create 5,000 gold, silver and bronze medals recycled from small electronic devices. The intricate design will represent Japanese culture with the ribbon showing off modernized ichimatsu moyo (checkered patterns) and kasane no irome (kimono layering). The ribbon will be made from polyester fibers.
