A multinational cybersecurity and anti-virus provider has identified a fake version of the FaceApp which has recently been trending due to the viral #agechallenge.
The app according to Kaspersky was designed to trick users into thinking it is the certified version of faceapp but contains adware known as MobiDash. It uses the fake app installations to infiltrate the device and install suspicious ads software.
The app has currently infected around 500 users. The first detection appeared on July 7th.
FaceApps itself is nothing new, but the latest FaceApp Challenge has taken the social media channels by storm. The anti-virus company recommends its users to download applications from official sources and install security protection on your devices.
