Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) will soon be equipped with 1Gbps fibre Internet access at two of its campuses, in Sungai Long and Kampar.
This follows a collaboration with Maxis Bhd to provide high-speed Internet service with inter-campus link, plus the telco’s Internet Protocol Metro Area Network (IPMAN).
The protocol is meant to enable UTAR to scale up its bandwidth seamlessly to higher speeds as it become available in the future.
Maxis chief enterprise business officer Paul McManus said the Internet has become critical in our lives, and for students especially, they are central to academic, administration and lifestyle activities. UTAR R&D and Commercialisation vice-president Prof Ts Dr Faidz Abd Rahman said the importance of staying connected simply cannot be ignored, more so with high-speed connectivity in today’s digital age.
