Former president of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe dies aged 95

Zimbabwe’s longtime president Robert Mugabe has died. His death was announced by the current president Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday. “It is with the utmost sadness that I announce the passing on of Zimbabwe’s founding father and former President, Cde Robert Mugabe,” Mnangagwa said in a statement. The former strong man succumbs after battling ill health. Mugabe was the first post-independence leader of Zimbabwe. He was forced to resign in 2017 after a military coup took control of the country. He was placed under house arrest.
