Hong Kong – Chief executive Carrie Lam has reiterated that her main priority is to stop the violence rather than make protest concessions. She has called for protesters to put aside their differences for the country to be able to get back on track and recover.
“Compared to the economic downturn caused by SARS that we handled previously, even to the 2008 economic crisis, the situation this time is more severe,” She said in a press conference.
She appealed for “calmness and rationality” urging its citizen to avoid disruption in the city and destroying its economy.
Protesters have continued to stage demonstrations which have become increasingly violent with the police.
The protests began two months ago over the controversial extradition bill that developed into democratic reforms issue.
